Combining members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra with some of the St. Louis region’s finest jazz musicians, The 442s are a genre-defying acoustic sextet named for the modern standard tuning of 442 Hz. Formed in 2012 around the inventive compositions of multi- instrumentalist Adam Maness, the group also features Shawn Weil (violin), Shannon Williams
(viola), Bjorn Ranheim (cello), Bob DeBoo (bass), and Kaleb Kirby (drums). Blending virtuosic musicianship, group vocals, and fearless improvisation, The 442s blur the lines between jazz, classical, folk, and pop music. The ensemble has performed throughout the
Midwest at venues including Powell Symphony Hall, Jazz St. Louis, and The Sheldon Concert Hall, and has appeared as soloists with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. The 442s have released four albums, including their most recent recording, Aim To
Please (2023). Their music has been featured internationally on radio and television, including the Emmy Award-winning documentary Show Me 66: Main Street Through Missouri. In 2016,
the ensemble was named the inaugural Artists-in-Residence at Forest Park in St. Louis, culminating in a unique community-based multimedia commissioning project.
